Nominating Pelham's Downtown Area to Become a National Historic District!
Pelham's downtown area on Fifth Avenue and Wolfs Lane is a wonderful collection of late 19th and early 20th century commercial architecture. The New York State Historic Preservation Office has made a determination that the area qualifies for designation as a state and national historic district. This listing would qualify commercial property owners for federal and state historic preservation tax credits for certain kinds of improvements made to these properties. (Because Pelham does not have landmark regulation laws, the listing would not restrict owners in making changes to properties.) The Pelham Preservation & Garden Society is currently working with the SHPO in preparing the listing nomination.
