2026 Fundraiser at “Pelham Dale”
45 Iden Avenue
The home of Rhonda Kost & Alfred Spector
Saturday, June 6, 2026
One of only two houses in the Pelhams that pre-date the Revolutionary War, this was the home of Philip Pell II (1733-1788), a grandson of the Third Lord of the Manor of Pelham, Thomas Pell. All three of Philip Pell’s sons fought on the American side in the War for Independence. The house sat at the southern end of Philip Pell’s land, which included all the land in the present Village of Pelham.
The first floor of the original home is today the lower level, which contains the original kitchen. In 1823, James Hay purchased the estate, named it Pelham Dale and significantly remodeled the house to add the upper floors. The style of the home is best described as a combination of late-Federal/early Greek Revival styles with oversized floor-to-ceiling windows and thin mullions contrasted with heavier classical elements, such as the front entry portico, an oversized cornice, and interior moldings. The house went through a succession of subsequent owners, at times in deteriorated condition. Alfred Spector and Rhonda Kost purchased in 1997 and tenderly made such improvements as enclosing a former porch to locate the kitchen on the main floor. They lovingly restored the home to museum quality consistent with the home’s significant historical value and inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
Drinks, Music & Food 7 - 10 pm in Pelham Manor.
